The families that were affected by the Eta-Iota hurricanes continue to need support, not only with food, the consumption of water is another of the most felt needs since the water sources were contaminated. It is precisely for this reason that Habitat for Humanity Nicaragua began the first phase of response to the emergency by sending backpacks to carry water and water filters.

Aware of this need and as part of its sustainability programs, the Coca-Cola Nicaragua System delivered 48,000 units of 600ml Alpina water to Habitat Nicaragua, to be taken and distributed among families affected by the hurricanes.

Maricel Álvarez Chavarría, representative of the Coca-Cola Nicaragua System, said that the delivery of water is in line with the company’s objectives of collaborating with the social and environmental well-being of the communities where they operate. “For us it is very important to provide this valuable resource to the families affected by the recent natural disasters in Nicaragua, so our response is immediate to this need”, he said.

“With this donation made by the Coca-Cola System, we are going to be able to bring families an essential input such as water. We are very grateful for the trust they placed in Habitat Nicaragua, and for joining the list of companies that are doing their bit to support those who lost everything in the hurricanes”, said Frank Matus-Aguirre, country director for Habitat for Humanity Nicaragua.

The 48,000 units will be transported and distributed in the coming days, by local partners of Habitat Nicaragua, who have projects in the affected areas and also delivering hygiene kits, water filters, transport backpacks and safe construction manuals that are being sent to affected families.

Habitat for Humanity Nicaragua is executing an emergency response project, the first phase includes the delivery of water filters and a hygiene kit. The second phase, which is still in the fundraising stage, is to deliver rebuilding kits that include zinc sheets and a series of tools to carry out safe construction work.
