Do\u00f1a Mar\u00eda did not leave her astonishment to see that the ecofog\u00f3n was lit and the heat did not cross the bricks.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Do\u00f1a Mar\u00eda has been making toasted tortillas for more than 20 years, like most women in San Rafael del Sur, she cooks in a traditional stove and uses comales. However, this traditional way of working has caused serious health problems.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am short of sight because of the smoke and the steam of the fire, it has affected me a lot until I suffer a lot from the pressure,\u201d Dona Maria tells us while she observes curious how her neighbor, Mrs. Miriam is lighting her Habitat eco-fire for the first time. Miriam thought differently from the beginning, she immediately said yes to having an ecofogon, because when they explained the advantages she realized that it was a good for the health of the family.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow it is faster to light the fire and I am also calm because I was not swallowing smoke, and the embarrassment was not suffocating me. And the tortillas come out faster and more toast, \u201dMiriam tells us as she claps.<\/p>\n

Miriam was the first of 75 women who allied with Habitat for Humanity Nicaragua to create the first ecofogons in the area of \u200b\u200bSan Rafael del Sur, in the community of Guti\u00e9rrez Norte. Ecofogones will allow women to reduce production costs and therefore increase their income; On the other hand, respiratory diseases for women and their families will decrease.<\/p>\n
